WATG's inaugural student design competition titled "Reimagine The Future of Hospitality with A.I." is aimed at harnessing the ingenious potential of young minds in redefining the way we conceive and design through A.I. The objective is to empower students' spirit of experimentation to explore the forefront of innovation and creativity in the rapidly evolving field of A.I.
As the leading integrated design firm for luxury hospitality projects, we have been pushing the boundaries of possibilities since our dawning days in Honolulu in 1945. Ahead of our 80th anniversary in 2025, the competition marks a celebration of our legacy in hospitality and pioneering spirit in constant reinvention and innovation.
THE DESIGN TASK
Wellness tourism is projected to grow by 16.6% annually, reaching $1.4 trillion in 2027 (source: Global Wellness Institute). As wellness becomes a core offering especially within the luxury hospitality experience, its growing prominence brings evolution, innovation and nuance in wellness programming to include physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
Participants are invited to conjure up a new tourist destination using A.I. tools that is centered around a fresh concept of wellness and explain the design direction and intent.
Think beyond image generation to uncover the potential of a variety of A.I. tools and how they can come together for problem solving with unexpected creative outputs.

TIMELINE
25 September 2024 – Call for entries closes
27 September 2024 – Finalists announcement
4 October 2024 – Finalists presentation + winners announcement
HOW TO SUBMIT
Participants are required to fill up the official competition online submission form. An email inviting you to upload your submission materials will be sent to you within one working day. Participants are then required to upload their submission, prepared in a zipped folder named in this convention comprising:
- 1 x A1 PDF board articulating your concept and process which must include the title of your entry in less than 10 words and a 150 word narrative
- 5 x high res images in 300 dpi
- 1 x video, no longer than 2 min (optional)
Please note that once the zipped folder is uploaded, access to amend or edit your submission will no longer be available. Entries will be deemed final at this point.
OUR JUDGES
10 finalists will be pre-selected by WATG's Global Design Technology team. Finalists will then participate in a final round of presentation on 4 October 2024, Friday in front of our panel of judges and a live audience.

1. Creativity and originality of final output
2. Creativity and originality of methodology
3. Ability to capture the spirit of the design task
4. Presentation and delivery of ideas
Bonus: Consideration of ESG, enhancement to social/ cultural/ environmental
COMPETITION RULES
1. Students pursuing tertiary education are eligible to participate.
2. Participants may submit individually, or as a pair but not as a team.
3. Participants may submit more than one entry, with clear creative distinction of each submitted concept.
4. 10 finalists will be selected with three eventual winners (Winner, first runner up and second runner up)
5. Finalists will be required to present on the designated event date 4 October where a timing to present will be allocated at least a week in advance.
6. All judges' decisions are final.
7. The organiser reserves the right to make any changes to the programme without prior notice.
